Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, today paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, in Dili, on the sidelines of his working visit to Timor Leste to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
Their discussions centred on ASEAN’s priorities in 2026, including the implementation of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, which aims at achieving a resilient, innovative, dynamic and people-centred ASEAN by 2045.
The discussions also touched on Timor-Leste’s readiness to contribute actively to ASEAN, including its expressed intention to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029. Dr. Kao expressed the ASEAN Secretariat’s readiness to support ongoing efforts to ensure Timor-Leste’s full and effective integration into ASEAN.
