At the invitation of The Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chair of ASEAN for 2025, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat Delegation to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 26-28 October 2025, under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
Some milestone events that would take place on the sidelines of the series of the meetings include the Signing of the Declaration on the Admission of Timor-Leste into ASEAN, the Signing Ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by Finland, the Signing Ceremony of the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Summit as well as the ASEAN Prize Presentation Ceremony.
Prior to the Summits, Dr. Kao will participate in a series of ministerial meetings, which include ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), 30th ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, 37th ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting, and ASEAN Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Meeting, on 25 October 2025.
Dr. Kao is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with high-level dignitaries from the ASEAN Member States as well as from its external partners and international organisations to exchange views on enhancing existing cooperation, exploring new areas for collaboration and advancing ASEAN Community-building efforts.
The series of high-level meetings will provide an important opportunity to take stock of ASEAN’s progress, set future directions and reaffirm ASEAN’s commitment to regional peace, stability, security and inclusive sustainable development.
