At the invitation of the United States Department of State, and with the support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn will lead the ASEAN Secretariat delegation to pay a working visit to the United States, on 10-13 June 2024. The main objective of the working visit is to promote the ASEAN-United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership building on the success of existing areas of cooperation. Dr. Kao will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including cabinet-level United States government officials, Congressional leaders, private sector partners, academia, think tanks, experts, university leaders and the media. To further advance ASEAN public diplomacy and visibility, Dr. Kao is scheduled to launch the ASEAN-United States Center’s Speakers Series and speak on “ASEAN-United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Partners for Peace, Prosperity, and People.” Dr. Kao is also scheduled to have engagements with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the United States-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) to deliberate on key issues under ASEAN-United States cooperation, including peace, security, and public-private partnership, among others. The Secretary-General of ASEAN also plans to meet with the ASEAN Committee in Washington D.C. (ACW), where he would discuss the current state and future direction of ASEAN-United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and exchange views on the Committee’s role in promoting and strengthening ASEAN-United States dialogue relations.
