This morning in Hekinan City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Kao Kim Hourn, visited the Hekinan Thermal Power Station and Thermal Fuel Ammonia Construction Site operated by Japan’s Energy for a New Era, Inc. (JERA). Received and accompanied by the company’s President Director Hisahide Okuda, SG Dr Kao toured the facility, which provides stable electricity supply to the Chubu region and beyond. The site also features a groundbreaking demonstration project aimed at achieving zero carbon emissions through what could become the world’s first large-scale ammonia-coal co-firing power station. ASEAN is committed to collaborating with Japan towards carbon neutrality in the region by diversifying energy sources, including the use of ammonia and hydrogen.
